About the New York Rangers Hockey Team

The New York Rangers are a National Hockey League team (NHL) that plays their home games at Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York, NY. They play in the Metropolitan division of the Eastern Conference. The Rangers first joined the NHL in 1926 and are part of the "original six" teams that also include the Chicago BlackhawksDetroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadians, Boston Bruins, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. They are a team that is very rich in history and pride. On November 16th, 1926 New York Rangers played their first game ever vs. the Montreal Maroons. This would be game 1 of a 44 game schedule in the 1926-27 season, and the Rangers would win that game 1-0. At the time, tickets to go see a New York Rangers game averaged in price from $1.50 a ticket to 11.50 per ticket. The game was played at Madison Square Garden, the place that the Rangers still play all of their home games to this day. 

94 years later, New York can look back in history and boast 49 playoff appearances and 4 Stanley Cup Championships. Recent years have not been too good for the Rangers as they have failed to make the playoffs in 2018, 2019, and 2020. The last time that the team had not made the playoffs in more than one consecutive season is when the team missed the playoffs for 7 consecutive seasons from 1998-2004. The Rangers have made it to the Stanely Cup Finals 11 times and were able to win the championship and take home Lord Stanley's Cup 4 of those times, giving them a 4-7 record in NHL Finals appearances. The early days in the franchise history were the most successful as the team made the finals in 6 of their first 14 seasons and won 3 of their Stanley Cups during that period.  The last time that New York made the NHL Finals was in 2014 but lost the series to the Los Angeles Kings 4-1. The last time that the Rangers won a Stanley Cup was when the Vancouver Cunucks took them to 7 games and the Rangers pulled out a game 7 victory 3-2, on June 14th, 1994 to take the series 4-3 and win the Championship, ending a 54 year drought.
